Not even the present-day practice of re-defining and re-writing Biblical context and Scriptural narrative can change the eternal truth of these two ancient voices. Both can be interpreted into present-day reality seamlessly, without ignoring original context or disrupting the intended meaning. Yes, Amos and Joel can and must still be heard and their un-compromised message of right and righteous covenant relationship with God, the urgent call of fidelity to the order and authority of His eternal and sovereign Word, and the intense appeal to establish and maintain a genuine habitation for the presence of Holy Spirit in us.

Living to Die - Dying to Live. On Resurrection or Easter Sunday the talk of death or dying is not considered good form - I get that! Interestingly enough, Jesus, in whom this whole Resurrection celebration consists and has meaning, rarely talked about the possibilities of life, without including the realities of death - and He rarely talked about the realities of dying without talking about the hope and possibilities of life. But let’s not just take my word for it - listen to the words of Jesus.

As we wake up today we bemoan the fact that in many ways we are living in a collapsing world (context please). Many believe, but will not say out loud we are headed for an unprecedented global apocalyptic event or events. As a general definition, covenant is a written agreement or promise usually under seal between two or more parties especially for the performance of some action or exchange of shared expectations.
A world without covenants would be anarchy. A world with covenants constantly broken and violated is as we have discovered just as bad if not worse.

We live in an age that, because of the general abandonment of the biblical worldview, has made status, position, power and identity politics the absolute good. A major function of education has become not the acquisition of knowledge but the enhancement and influence of unrealistic self-centric thinking. I call it passive-aggressive narcissism. The irony in all of this, as we processed earlier, is that in the non-biblical worldview, humanity has no significance whatsoever.
