Caring and Serving
Go Deep
Everyman Advance 2022
Psalm 42
Romans 8
I did not know that I would be going down this path when asked to teach this lesson. I thought going deep would be about a new kind of connection, you know, the warm and fuzzy ones.
But here I sit, a day removed from playing Mr. Mom and overwhelmed by loss and responsibility and new life.
I’m exhausted – and really planned on not attending this weekend.
Yay! Great talk pastor Todd.
Read these scriptures with me if you would:
Psalm 42:5
5 Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation 6and my God.
Psalm 42:10-11
10As with a deadly wound in my bones,
my adversaries taunt me,
while they say to me all the day long,
“Where is your God?”
11 Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation and my God.
Romans 8:16-17
16The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
Romans 8:35-39
35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36As it is written,
“For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
What are your spiritual acts of service and caring?
What compels you to do these things?
How do you feel after doing spiritual acts of service?
Do you ever feel attacked for just ‘doing the right thing’?
In order to ‘Go Deep’, what are you willing to encounter?
